The session will review the leading federal tax developments of September 2021, featuring a pair of interesting cases related to divorcing or divorced individuals as well as one on the handling of hobby losses. On the business side, the session will look at the valuation of a business on the death of an owner—a Missouri federal district court bypassed an existing buy-sell agreement in determining the value of stock but included the insurance proceeds for the buyout in the valuation.
